口哨入門者首先面臨的是口型和舌位問題。
1、口哨的口型
嘬攏嘴唇，留一個大約能將小指肚伸進的小孔。
註：正確的口哨口型既是口哨發聲的前提，更是經長期的練習後口哨音量增大的基礎之一。
2、舌的位置
舌應貼著下牙齒內側。
註：舌位至關重要。即使口型對，如舌位不對，也吹不出聲來。
能吹出聲後，舌位的輕微升降可改變聲音的高低。
3、氣息的運用
在仔細、反復體會口型和舌位後，深吸一口氣，控制好口型和舌位，將氣慢慢吹出。
一旦能吹出了口哨聲，找到了如何吹口哨的精細的感覺，就要乘熱打鐵，加強練習，直到吹出穩定的口哨音樂。此時你就可自稱是一位口哨吹奏者了，你的一隻腳已邁進了口哨藝術的大門。
對不同的人來說，這一步有的一分鍾就可達到，而有的需要多日甚至多年。該說的已說了，就看你的悟性和勤奮了。
兩個手指相對（不一定要拇指或食指哦），放在舌下，讓氣流穿過手指與口腔的縫隙，注意不要用蠻力，而是要照準發生共鳴的位置，如一時吹不響，可以試著調整手指與口腔的夾角和手指進入口腔的深淺度，多嘗試一下，你一定能夠打出響亮的呼哨。
